Warning. This post talks about hockey and World of WarCraft. But I think it's amusing. Still, I thought I'd warn you all. ;)

So there I am. Curled up on my couch, eating ordered in rotisserie chicken, wearing my white Habs jersey (as opposed to my red one. Yes. I have two.) and my old Habs baseball hat. (I have two of those, too.)

I'm all set to watch the first period of the game as I eat dinner and then go play WoW for a little bit.

And.. we're down 2-0 after the first period. /facepalm

Stupid Philadelphia Flyers. So I'm grumpy, and then people are cancelling for our raid this evening, so I'm having to scramble with the raid composition...

We start the raid and I've got a few new things I'd like the group to try, so we do, etc, etc... I have the game on in the background, but am depressed enough at the 2-0 lead the Flyers have that I don't need t pay attention to it.

So I'm focused on my raiding stuff and all of a sudden, I look up and see an empty net. O_o They've pulled Carey Price. This can't be good, I think. I realize there's about a minute left in the third and we're down 3-2.

All of a sudden, a playoff series between Montreal and Boston flashes before my eyes, from nearly two decades ago. At my birthday party that year, my friends insisted on watching this game between the Habs and Bruins and the Habs pulled Patrick Roy and the Bruins scored an empty-net insurance goal, winning the game, eliminating the Habs from the playoffs.

So I have visions of that dancing in my head and I have to organize my raid and and and. I think I deafened my guild members when I screamed "YES!!!!" when Kovalev scored the tying goal.

Not ten minutes later, my guild gets the end-boss of this particular dungeon down to 1% (for the first time) before we all die.

It's not good, right, when it feels like your heart stops twice in 10 minutes? ;)

And then Tom Kostopoulous (of all people!) scores the winner, 48 seconds into overtime.

Dear Lord, I do NOT have the constitution for this.

That said, I wonder if that counts as a cardiovascular workout...

Off to watch The Office, 30 Rock and maybe Lost. Woot!

BWAHAHAHA.

Ladies and gentlemen, my brother amuses me.

In WarCraft, which we both play too much of, you can battle other people in arenas and earn "arena points" which depend on your team's rating each week. The arena points are awarded every Tuesday morning, around 5am, and go towards buying arena armor and weapons. There are two sets of armor and weapons, just a bit different in their stat. The first set is called "Gladiator" gear and the second is "Merciless Gladiator" gear.

My brother and I happen to be on an arena team together with a couple other people, and we're pretty damn awesome at the 3 vs. 3 games, with me healing, my brother doing damage and another damage-dealer.

So he just called me before going to bed and we chatted for a bit and then, as he's about to go, he says "OH! I almost forgot! I'll have enough points to get my Merciless Gladiator's Helm tomorrow!"

"Oh!" I remarked, "I think I can get my Merciless Gladiator's Gloves tomorrow!"

"SWEET, we can go be merciless together!!!!" he exclaimed. "Night!"

I love the schmuck. :)

I never write anymore. Like, anywhere. Not here, not in Word or Notepad, not anywhere except sometimes, maybe, a notebook I carry around with me.

I was thinking it might just be because it's summer. And then I looked back at last summer's posts. Well, it was a busy summer, last year. JB, school, work... I have nothing to post about because I'm pretty much doing nothing right now. School starts up again on the 5th, and it's my thesis year, oh yay.

My friends haven't been in town this summer. I mean, most of them don't live here anymore, but I missed [livejournal.com profile] drsnicket's visit, PF hasn't come in, CB left for Cambodia, JB's been out of town pretty much all summer... Those are my closest friends. Not having much contact with them sucks. CB is my phone buddy. I would talk to her on the phone like, 14 times a day. JB is my in-person buddy. I would see her all the time. PF has been busy with a move into a house with her husband, and this is somehow preventing her from emailing and phoning. And [livejournal.com profile] drsnicket and I don't always talk a lot to start with, but I know the poor girl is stressed out about various things.

So, in view of my ultimately boring life, I've been moderately silly and I have thrown myself into yet another online community. (Pretty much anyone reading this knows exactly how I am prone to doing this.)

Except this time, it's not a web/email/chat based community over some OTP. No, no, it's a stupid, addictive game called World of Warcraft. I got sucked into it last October/November, and once school was out, I really got into it.

I'll spare you the lame details (and there are many), but in short, if I'm online, I'm probably playing WoW. Or researching stuff about WoW. Or posting on the message boards I created for my guild. Or something else related to WoW.

I usually have a browser open while playing, because there's a lot of waiting in the game. (Flying places, waiting for other people, etc, etc.) So I flip over to the browser, I read LJ, I read some MeFi and that sort of thing. Just quickly, which is one of the reasons I rarely comment anymore -- I'll have read the entry and then I arrive at my destination in-game and then I go riding to where I need to be or whatever. And while I'll have absorbed the information, it's rare that I have enough time to both read AND reply. Which is silly.

I'm enjoying my time playing this insidious game (don't start, you'll never stop, I promise), and my GPA was not harmed by it, so that's all good, but my other hobbies, so to speak, are suffering. Writing? Reading? Designing? Chatting? Even watching TV? All have taken a nosedive. I've been pretty good about managing RL plans vs. in-game plans, though, which is something that would have been an issue in the past. I don't give up RL social events for in-game ones. Do I try to manage it so I have no conflicts? Yes. :) Does it always work? No, and I'm cool with that.

One of the good things that's come out of this stupid game is that my brother plays it, too, so we always have something to talk about. We're in the same guild so we're always doing things together in-game, and we're both officers in our guild, so we both work on strategizing (there is a stupid amount of thinking that goes into certain parts of this game) and I think it's kind of brought us closer together, which is nice.

But yeah... that's basically what's been up with me. On the plus side, I've gotten a lot accomplished in the game, but on the down side, it was in the game. Ah, if only success in the online realm would translate to success offline, eh?

Anyways, I hope to get back to LJing more frequently, because at least you people know how to write without making me cringe (did u noe dat dere r ppl who acutlly type lik dis and i feel lik i must kill dem!!!1!!!1!), and I hope to be, you know, more interactive with you all soon. I miss you, and I'm thinking good thoughts for each and every one of you (especially [livejournal.com profile] superswank!). I know I'm late and forgetting other things, but happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] trexphile, congrats to [livejournal.com profile] shiningmoon, sorry about the roomie situation to [livejournal.com profile] hambam, feel better to [livejournal.com profile] slammerkinbabe, happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] poisininjest...

(Also, obsessed with The Office, OMG, and it's all [livejournal.com profile] moireach's fault.)

And now, off to shower and tidy, because JB is finally back in town, and we're going to have a nice evening together with our friends Chocolate Ice Cream and Weeds. (The show, not the, you know, plant.)
