So, apparently, [livejournal.com profile] vikingcarrot has gotten a Strike 1 for art that she disclaimed contained an 18 year old as the younger character.

Link to her entry.

And also, someone's gotten a warning for already-deleted posts. Link to [livejournal.com profile] cluegirl's post here.

I don't do fanart, I don't do photo manips, I don't even really write fanfic anymore (well, very rarely)... but I am increasingly disturbed by all this crap.

(And yet, laziness means I'm not triple posting yet. But I expect to start soon.)

Sigh.

Well, I need to reread all the crap and "clarification" LJ/SA has posted, but basically, as I see it, they can ban users at will for questionable content that isn't even hosted on LJ servers, but remotely loaded using the img tag to load the images on to the LJ site.

They can ban users at will for content that is friendslocked or even private, if this is (somehow) reported to them.

I came to LJ several years ago for the community... well, to be honest, it was to continue to be able to read my then-GF's friendslocked posts after she left for school again. I've gotten MORE reasons to stay the longer I've been here. I've paid (or had paid for me) $109 over the years.

I don't particularly want to leave, but I have a VERY bad feeling about SA/LJ's "obscenity" policies and their incredibly vague and subjective terms of service that they are claiming they are not changing, even though they have changed how they are applying these terms of service.

My other journal will be deleted. I may wipe out all my posts here and just use the account to read friendslocked posts and comment occasionally, but I'm not sure. It feels really Big Brotherish and being a gay woman makes me feel like I've got a target painted on my chest in terms of "morality" and "obscenity" and such, particularly as they're doing a conservative reading of US law to determine the legality of various things.

Anyways. Not sure what I'm gonna do, but it's not like I post an obscene amount anyways. AHAHAHA I MADE A FUNNY.

I swear to God, staring at the news comments for five days has dropped my IQ at least 20 points.

I am, however, continually amused by the various images I made and used during the "boldthrough" protest.

Shiny! )

Blah. I'm so wide awake.

Six Apart is at it again (go Missy!) and is deleting journals without warning. Yes, at least one suspension had to do with Snarry art, which is what people seem to be focused on, rather than focusing on the fact that the LiveJournal terms of service are vague and subjective when it comes to mature subject matter.

LJers have been filling up the [livejournal.com profile] news posts to 5000 comments with various comments such as well-thought out arguments, mature images, image macros (generally cats), song lyrics, pictures (screencaps generally) of same-sex affection, YouTube embedded videos of the same... Basically anything to get their attention.

And it seems attention has been gotten by Abe Hassan, a LJ/SA employee (whose personal journal is found at [livejournal.com profile] burr86), because he publicly mocked the complaining customers. There has been no official response from LJ, there has been no clarification of their vague policies, there has been no notification of changing policies... nothing. And yet, this douchebag mocked the customers and users that pay for and use the site.

The thread was at http://community.livejournal.com/efw/117416.html and has been deleted, but yours truly has a screenshot. Click the cut to see it. There were more comments, but alas, they were posted afterwards and subsequently lost in the deletion of the thread.

burr86 is a douche. )

I've set up journals at GreatestJournal (from the last time LJ fucked people over) and InsaneJournal, both using brinshannara as my username.

I'm basically just chillin' to see where fandom will pick up and move to before I move. I'm all backed up in case they delete my ass for being somewhat obnoxious over in the news posts in question (the most recent 2 are filled with max comments, the 3rd most recent is filling up) and I'm going to continue being somewhat obnoxious until I hear something.

Should you want to backup your LJ, nothing could possibly be easier -- seriously.

Excellent post.

Why am I considering moving? Because [livejournal.com profile] ponderosa121 and [livejournal.com profile] elaboration received no warning before being permanently banned. I think it's ponderosa who had a permanent account, too. And you'll see that the strikethrough from a deleted journal is now no longer there -- there's no link, no strikethrough... it's just bold, now. As if that's going to make it less obvious that something is not right with those journals. Coincidence that this change in displaying deleted journals started RIGHT WHEN these two users were banned? I think not.

I've never trusted Six Apart since it became more than "Ben and Mena". I KNEW it was bad news when SA bought LJ. And now they're enforcing vague, subjective policies that can be applied to any "questionable" content -- that could apply to fic, to icons, to fan art, to fan vids... to anything, really. Their policies are UNCLEAR and are allowing them to sweep out "undesirables". Do I really want to see Snarry art? Hell no. But do I want SA/LJ to be the judges of what is art and what is obscene, without clear guidelines to determine which is which? No. In the current political climate in the United States, that could mean that all things gay are obscene. They certainly seem to be targetting [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies, but what about [livejournal.com profile] erotic_elves, the straight counterpart of PP? None of their posts have been reported as obscene. Not that I want [livejournal.com profile] erotic_elves to be reported, but if [livejournal.com profile] pornish_pixies is, there's no reason their counterpart shouldn't be.

This is the subjective part of the policies come into play, IMHO. And I'm really not thrilled by this.

ETA: A really good article that explains basically what the hell is going on:

ETA2: Holy smokes, the charities that $25 per permanent account purchase for the frst 36 hours of the sale are all tied to the venture group that put up the money to purchase Six Apart:

I hate SA more and more every hour.

ETA3: Handy, informative post about various LJ/SA contradictions:

ETA4: Er, I may have been bored...
