Election time again. Already?
Oct. 14th, 2008 05:29 amSo, in January of 2006, our Liberal minority government was replaced with a Conservative minority government. I worked a 14 hour day to come home to Stephen Harper as my freaking Prime Minister.
I decided this year to not work for the federal government in the elections. I am quite pleased with this decision. I worked provincial last year, federal in 2006, etc. I've worked damn near every provincial or federal election for 8 years or so. I'll work again next time, maybe. But coming home to Stephen Harper as my Prime Minister makes me want to cry.
Thus, I am up late and will be going to bed soon, waking up at 1ish, voting by 1:45ish and back home around 2ish to start work. Should be a good day.
The thing that's making me LJ right now is that I find myself hoping that the Bloc Québecois does very well in Quebec.
But, you say, don't you hate the Bloc? Don't you hate separatists and separation and don't you believe that Canada should include Quebec?
Hell yes I do.
But the only reason the Conservatives won the election last time was because of 21 seats. And most of those were in Quebec. They lured voters away from the Bloc Quebecois. Not my Liberals. Not the NDP. The Bloc.
Thus, if the Bloc does well in Quebec (which is the only province they even HAVE seats... that's a whole mess, too, IMHO, but anyways), the Conservatives likely won't win.
I swear to God, a part of me just shrivels up and dies thinking about encouraging people to vote Bloc. But if they do that to prevent a Conservative from winning the seat... more power to them. (seriously, that was painful.)
Last election, I voted NDP. I'm sort of undecided right now. NDP... because I believe in the party? Or Liberal... because I believe in my Member of Parliament? The Liberal incumbent is almost certain to win. Which makes me feel like my vote doesn't count. But I voted NDP last time and showed my NDP leanings then and I know my MP will do a good job if elected -- I write to him once or twice a year and always enjoy his replies or the replies from his staff.
So we'll see what speaks to me on the ballot tomorrow. I'm thinking Liberal, though.
That's enough for now, I guess. Updates on the morrow.
