Missed my bus, stopped at Tim Horton's, took the metro and got to class late. Sigh.
Also, some dude in my class is totally misusing the word "secular".

Date: 2006-01-12 06:31 pm (UTC)There was a thing a couple years back, out in British Columbia, where a Sikh teenager was forbidden from wearing his kirpan (a ceremonial dagger) to school because it's longer than 4 inches (the legal maximum length for carrying a blade of any kind in Canada). Wearing a kirpan is mandatory in that boy's particular flavour of Sikhism. What to do when secular and religious laws conflict? (They eventually decreed that he could wear it, so long as it was locked into its sheath.)
So this dude sitting a couple rows behind me is all like...
"Religious items should be secular from schools."
Obviously, he meant to use it as a synonym for "separate", but he KEPT USING "secular". I was amused.
