So I was watching Sex and the City tonight (Bravo Canada airs three old episodes every Monday night. We're still getting through season one. The crappy thing is that they're not showing them IN ORDER. Like, WTF.), and Carrie was pondering the fact that if there's a guy in Manhattan, over 30, who's single, there's something wrong about him, he must be a freak in SOME fashion.

A friend and I were talking on the phone after the show, and were talking about the freakish part, in particular.

So I'm curious. What's your freakish thing? Most everyone has one, or more, of these freakish things that make other people go "Huh, wha?!"

I'm not talking about biting your nails, unless you bite your toenails like Dave Lister. Nor am I talking about actual psychological disorders. I'm talking about your "normal" freakish thing.

My first girlfriend, for instance, had many things that could be considered freakish, but I'll pick one as an example. She used to pick at the skin around her fingernails constantly. Pick, pick, pick. Bite, bite, bite. Pick. Bite. Pick, pick. Drove me violently insane, even when I was in love with her, and after I fell out of love with her, it grew intolerable.

I'm turning off IP logging, feel free to post anonymously. So comment here and tell me what YOUR freakish thing is!

I do the same thing with my fingers. I also bite/chew on my lip and scratch my head obsessively. I only do it when I'm around other people, so I think it's safe to assume that they're nervous habits. Either that, or my skin is tasty and I have dandruff.

I just re-read the paragraph that says you're not talking about psychological things. Oops?

Bleh. I don't like public bathrooms, either, but if I have to pee, I'm going to pee. Er, unless I can race home in time. I don't like going to the bathroom at other people's houses, either. I'm sure there's some psychological diagnosis for that, too. There seems to be one for everything.

I'm sure you, and everyone else, wanted to know about my excretory habits.

Ummm... I don't really have just one freakish thing. Hell, I am a Wings, Tigers, Pistons and Jets fan, after all ;) But, I'll say one. I have to take a shower everytime before I leave the house. I dunno if that's ordinary freaky or what.

I like to rip open those little ketchup packets you get at fast food places and suck the ketchup out. Yum.

Not exactly a nervous habit, but I have slight hayfever year-round. I'm pretty sure that could be very annoying to someone else who was around me a lot. (It's also annoying to me because it kills my immune system.)

Also, I bite my nails. But I'm insidious; I don't do it all the time, I do it just enough that you'd feel really unreasonable if you called it an annoying habit of mine, because I hardly ever do it, but enough to be annoying as well. And I run my fingers through my hair when I'm nervous, or thinking, or feeling most emotions, really.

And my tastes in food are freakish, because I mix eating things no sane person would touch with being a picky eater about normal things.

Okay, I'm going anonymous with this because it's gross AND freakish and I don't want anyone to not like me anymore. (Oops, that's delving a little into the psychological thing, isn't it?)

Anyway, I have a skin thing (like eczema) behind my left ear that causes my scalp to get really red and flaky; when I'm nervous, or if I'm bored, or if I can't sleep, I pick off the little flakes of skin. It embarrasses me to no end if anyone ever catches me doing it, but I can't seem to stop.

And that was definitely TMI, wasn't it? Sorry if I've spoiled your lunch.

Also, when you have to go and you are on a road trip, and you have to have to have to stop to go PP and the place looks and smell so bad that you rather pp your pants......it comes handy to know how to PP standing up ;)

When I was really little, I trained myself not to feel pain. It's a form of self-hypnosis, I'm told.

Well, it doesn't work for things like headaches or cramps. It *does* work for things like scrapes, cuts, sprains, and other injuries. I focus on it, breathe, and it doesn't hurt anymore.

Of course, I've never (knock on wood) *really* broken anything, you know, that bones-sticking-through-skin kind of broken? I'm betting it wouldn't work there.
