Mornings are evil.
I slept really poorly. Kept waking up every couple of hours. Each time, I was still very tired, but apparently not sleepy. What the hell is up with that?
I've been up for like, 35 minutes now, and am no closer to getting out of my chair to go get dressed for the day. Blah.
On the agenda for today:
- class at 8:45.
- class at 10:15.
- possibly the library for several hours, starting at around 1 or 1:30. We'll see.
Ideally, I'd like to come back home, watch my AMC tape and then go back to bed, only I know I wouldn't be able to sleep tonight, if I napped today.
Blah, it feels like -13C outside. Winter is getting the last word. Again. Early spring? Hell no. This is winter's one last hurrah.
Oh, and for
wiccagood, with whom I once had an extended conversation about cardshark/cardsharp:
Mispronounced Words (swiped from

Yes, yes, I admit it's cardsharp, but at least I don't say things like "a blessing in the skies" instead of "a blessing in disguise", or, my personal favourite one to hate since one of my exes used to say it constantly, "for all intensive purposes" instead of "for all intents and purposes".
<cringes at the memories>
Okay. Off to get the day started. I'm so taking a later bus than usual.

Date: 2004-03-19 04:43 am (UTC)Now I just wanna talk quickly about language, and then we can all go. Yeah, language. They do say Britain and America are two countries separated by the Atlantic Ocean, and it's true. No, they say, "two countries separated by a common language," that's the line; it's an Oscar Wilde line, I think. And we do pronounce things in a different way, like you say "caterpillar" and we say "caterpillar," and you say "aluminum" and we say "aluminium." You say, "centrifigal" and we say "centri-fuuugal." You say, "leisure" and we say "lizuray." You say "baysil" and we say "bahsil." You say "'erbs" and we say "herbs," because there's a fucking "H" in it.But you spell through "thru," and I'm with you on that, 'cause we spell it "thruff," and that's trying to cheat at Scrabble.

Date: 2004-03-19 01:07 pm (UTC)Okay, that made me laugh out loud.
I still say 'erbs, though. Maybe it's partly because I'm part French. The H is like, never pronounced in French. "Homme" is basically pronounced "Umm". "Haricot" is "Ah-ree-co". Yeah. That's my excuse. ;)

Date: 2004-03-19 07:42 am (UTC)To me, cardsharp implies merely being good at cards. It's cardshark because there's that element of taking you for every penny you've got, like a loanshark. They're not just good at cards, they've got a mean streak that they express through their card skills too.

Date: 2004-03-19 01:10 pm (UTC)My original argument was based on the game show, because hey, I remember it too. (And actually loved it all day long, 'cause I'm lame.)
I've never heard "cardsharp", and it doesn't make sense to me in the least. But I acknowledge it's actually a word.
HOWEVER, I do entirely agree with you that cardSHARK should be recognized as an actual word. But perhaps they have different meanings.
