That was a weird night.
Mar. 1st, 2005 07:01 amWas asleep by 11pm, if you can imagine. Trust me, I can't believe it myself.
It've been up since about 6:20am or so. That's funny, since this is when I went to bed on Monday morning. But anyways.
Had some odd dreams about The Sims, in which all my babies kept getting taken away by social services because they hadn't done their homework. But they were TODDLERS. They have no homework to do! Very strange.
Then came the driving nightmares.
My driving test is in approximately four hours. This is for the full-fledged license, so I will be a regular driver just like everyone else in the world, and not limited to driving with someone who's had their license for at least two years. (Which would mean that I couldn't even drive with the lovely
drsnicket if I didn't have a full license, which is funny, if annoying.)
Naturally, I am petrified of the test. Not just because it's driving in an area of town I haven't spent much time driving in (like, oh, 30 minutes last Friday), oh no. It's a lot more complicated than that.
To begin, we'll talk about the language. My full name is extremely bilingual. Having someone read my name aloud is like, the language litmus test. If they pronounce it in French, they're French. If they pronounce it in English, they're English. Trouble is, I'm not as bilingual as my name is, and this causes problems in this province. In other words, I'm terrified of getting a staunch separatist francophone as an invigilator, who thinks I'm French, and whose English isn't so good, and I would HATE to fail my road test just because of some stupid language barrier. Also, I'm scared to death of just being flunked because I'm an anglophone with a francophone name. This isn't as irrational a fear as you may think. To this day, I still think my ballot for the 1998 Quebec provincial election was deemed to arrive too late because I'm English and I talked to them on the phone in English about how to vote from abroad. But I'm not going to risk not understanding what the dude/lady tells me in French on my driver's test, so it'll have to be in English.
While the language is a real problem, it is not the biggest one, nope.
There's snow outside. It's been snowing for at least a couple of hours, it looks like. And it's REALLY WINDY, TOO. Hello, blowing snow. How are you? You suck.
My driving test, if it's not cancelled due to weather, should be over in just over four hours. It shouldn't be too bad, if the language and snow issues don't impact me too much.
Crossed fingers, good vibes and prayers are all accepted. :)
I'm thinking I'll go shower in a couple of minutes. Must look pretty for my photo, if I get the license, because that photo will be on the license AND my medicare card for the next. four. years.
