WHY do I have to care what this phrase means?

Why???

If what constitutes the evidence is not dependent on the consciousness of the participants, how are we to establish the causal link between cause and phenomenal manifestation?

It's in English. I understand each individual word. And yet the meaning of the phrase is difficult for me to grasp.

I just resent academic-speak with every single fibre of my soul.

This would actually be an interesting reading about fear and individual and social anxiety without all the outrageous, convoluted sentences. Why the dude couldn't just say "How can we figure out how and why people are scared, fearful or anxious if people can have those emotions without necessarily understanding what they're feeling or why they're feeling it themselves?"

Seriously. I'm sure there's an easier way to say it than I did, but less academic than this author's way.

Then again, I'm writing stuff like:

"Strengthening the constructionist argument, Armon-Jones discusses Wittgenstein's views regarding emotions. Wittgenstein argues that the inner feelings one is capable of feeling cannot be private, but are, instead, a shared public language, as they are often discussed in context. As they are shared and understood, they cannot be private, and because they convey a meaning, they are a form of language."

So I guess I'm one to talk, eh?

See, that's exactly what I mean. It's a simple enough idea, but the language obfuscates the meaning.

I would write fic but I think I'd wind up saying:

"The diminutive female became mobile in a forward direction, elevating herself through a complicated series of maneuvers and continuing a controlled falling motion until she ceased all movement at the refrigeration unit, whereupon she procured 3.74 litres of a mix of chilled dairy, flavouring and, without question, sugar."

Instead of:

"Maggie got up, walked to the kitchen and pulled the gallon of ice cream out of the freezer."

After reading that sentence, I think my brain just laughed and ran away.
