I got up. I went to school. School was okay. I went to coffee after with JB and TP, and NC joined us after.

Then, JB and NC went off, TP went off and I, instead of going home, went downtown.

My hair's been getting REALLY shaggy and the ends were getting all gross, and my mother will NOT SHUT UP about it being time for me to get a haircut. So I got one, because I actually agreed with her. I rather like it. :D

And then, I called my brother and I called CB to see if either of them wanted to go see Jodie Foster's new movie Flightplan. My brother didn't want to see it. CB didn't answer her phone. So I went alone, which was more than a little empowering. It's been a while since I've done that, and it felt good to just GO and not count on anyone else, not have to worry about anyone else, and just enjoy MYSELF. Which I sorely needed.

That said, a few comments on the movie.

I really like Jodie Foster in these suspenseful films. Panic Room, Flightplan, all good.

I have to say, I actually believed that it would be a wicked twist of the film if the unfairly-accused-Arab-passengers actually WERE the bad guys. And it would have been a neat twist if she really hadn't had her daughter on board.

As it was, I LOVED the twist. I, however, knew exactly that the flight attendent was totally in on it as soon as she avoided the "where did you look?" question. And then as soon as the air marshall went off to "talk to the captain", I was like, OH MY GOD, HE IS BAD. Nice twist. The entire movie up to that point, I figured okay, he's the good guy. But if he's the good guy, could they not have cast someone who did not look like he was about to FALL ASLEEP?! Like, wow. So when it was revealed that he was, you know, evil, it all made sense.

I liked the scam where the marshall says it's Jodie Foster's idea/plan. I loved the captain, too. The suspense at the end when she's going through the plane and trying to find Julia and avoid the air marshall was great. I ADORED when she was in the washroom and went upstairs to mess with the wiring, and how she got everyone to think the cabin had depressurized by dropping the oxygen masks. Brilliant!

More brilliance -- hiding in the cockpit, since it's so secure post-September-11th. Hee!

I also loved that they landed in GOOSE BAY.

What I did not like: Technically, Goose Bay is not in "Newfoundland". Newfoundland changed the name of their province a year or so ago. It is now "Newfoundland and Labrador". So, first of all, it should have been "Newfoundland and Labrador" in the movie. But I can forgive that anyways. What I cannot forgive is the utter shit of the pronounciation of "Newfoundland". Say it with me, people. "New. Fin. Land." Not "New" "Found" "Lind" or "New" "Fin" "Lind". Nono. "New." "Fin." "Land".

Also, the arrival of the FBI in Goose Bay in that short an amount of time is impossible. That should have been the RCMP. Do you KNOW where Goose Bay is?

It's here, below the L in Labrador. The US hasn't had a presence there since the 1970s. So, yeah. The Canadian stuff really irked me...

... but I really, really enjoyed the movie anyways. Best $10 I've spent on entertainment in a long time.

I am sleepy and may go to bed at a reasonable hour, for once.
