I was just about to post about the idiocy of these commentators because the smoke was originally black. I guess that was the first set of the afternoon's ballots that was black, but the second seems to have decided? I have no idea. I know I saw BLACK SMOKE and now it's all white, and NOW the bells are ringing.

Also, I'm disappointed it was Ratzinger. I thought it would be him, but it doesn't mean I wanted it to be him. Alas.

Yeah, same here. I was hoping for someone more progressive. Looks like I'm not going back to the Church any time soon.

Apparently, at least according to msnbc, the last Benedict also followed a hard-liner, and was more progressive, so they posit that this may be a signal that he will moderate his stance somewhat.

But then that other theory about there being a prophecy where the end times will come when there is a Benedict as Pope could have something to do with it as well.

Benedict. It's horrible that all I can think of are eggs benedict and Benedict Arnold when I see/hear that name.
