So, there I was, maybe a week or so ago. I was showering. And I stepped mostly out of the spray, towards the end of the tub, to reach my shampoo or some such thing. And I felt the tub's floor actually GIVE beneath my foot.
I chalked it up to some sort of air bubble or something, and didn't freak out because it was gone the next morning when I pushed against the tub with my hand.
Thursday (?) morningish, perhaps Wednesday, my bath mat next to my shower/tub was damp. "What the hell?" I thought, "I showered like, 10 hours ago!" So I hung the mat up to dry on the edge of the tub and put a towel down to ensure it was all dry. It stayed dry. Until that evening. It was definitely damp. Again, "What the hell?"
I looked up, nothing there. The tub hadn't been used, and I couldn't find a leak there. The toilet was dry as anything.
I couldn't find the source.
Until tonight, when the dampness turned into actual wetness. A towel I'd left there got *wet*. Like, very wet. And then, I realized that the hot water heater is right on the other side of the wall.
I have very bad luck with hot water heaters. We'll leave it at that.
Anyways, I emptied most of my closet and removed the access panel and realized I am a fool, because I have no flashlight. So I lit a candle and looked around the little cubbyhole-like space where the thing is, and I couldn't tell if anything was wrong or not. About the only thing I could determine was that if there WAS a leak, it was right at the same place the water would be coming from -- like, right through the wall. And possibly under the tub. What if the squishing of that air bubble I felt wasn't the rubber mat on the floor of my bathtub? What if that was water that had seeped under my bathtub?
So it's nearly six in the morning and I am going to spend the next couple of hours cleaning up my kitchen and living room and bathroom, so that when I phone the super at 10am, she'll be able to come up and see what the deal is.
I hope that, whatever the issue is, it's taken care of quickly. I have a poetry paper due Monday. I have visions of them tearing up my bathroom floor. :/
At least it's a slow leak and there's no water, like, burbling through cracks in the wall or anything...
