Metros and trains and running, oh my!
Jun. 9th, 2004 02:31 pmI'm currently sitting in the living room of
moireach and
cheapmetaphor's adorable little house. It's nice and cool in here, and a silly gameshow is on TV, which resembles the Yahoo! game of TextTwist (which is evil and addictive, but I knew that already).
My father checked me out of the room this morning around 8am, which meant that MY WAKE UP CALL DID NOT HAPPEN. So instead of waking up at 9:30, I woke up and fumbled for the TV remote to look at the time and panicked when I saw it was 10:10.
How I made the train to Durham is beyond me. Running through the train station at Newcastle was a new experience, and totally necessary. Had I been 30 seconds later, I would have missed the train entirely, and
moireach would have been stuck waiting for me for aaaaaages.
We wandered around Durham together for a bit, stopping at her bank and a library and the student union, and finally catching the bus back to her place. And here I sit, on a couch, happily using her spiffy!shiny!lovely!computer to post.
I'm tired, and even though I must have had at least nine hours of sleep, the freaking out of this morning eliminated all the rest I actually had.
This afternoon seems to be chilling out time, which is so fine with me, and then I get to take the train back to Newcastle and then take the Metro to the airport, where I'll meet my dad around 6:30. We have a flight at about 8 to Heathrow and our flight to Montreal from Heathrow is at some point in the morning.
While I'm having a good time, there has been a distinct lack of relaxing over the last week, and I am thrilled to be able to spend my last couple of days here in good company and just relaxing as much as possible. This is the part of my vacation that I'm using to recover from the rest of my vacation. Whee! :)
There are now music videos on the TV and it's currently a fun, upbeat song (Are You Gonna Be My Girl? I think) and I think that's a good note to end on.
