Sigh.

Ten to six in the morning.

I slept for three hours or so, from about 1am-4am. Then I woke up, hot, unsettled, and after a 45 minute phone call, I got up for a bit because I was pretty awake.

I tried to go back to sleep just after 5.

No dice.

So, brain, if you would shut up about The Da Vinci Code (which I finished nearly 13 hours ago), I'd appreciate it. An overactive imagination and a good memory are not a good combination.

Anyways, a little update on my life. I have commenced (and brace yourselves, because this is a bit of a shock) driving lessons. (Toldja. And I DID TOO give you all ample bracing time.)

That's right, I'm 27 and while I know how to drive (I've done it several times, but usually on dirt roads at my parents' country place), I never got my license. Mostly, I don't like the responsibility of driving. Not only are you in control of something that could, if misused, KILL someone, but in my family, it means picking up family members and dropping others off and such on family occasions. This is what my brother is for. This is not my job, and yet, I fear I shall inherit it.

I had my first theory lesson last night, from 6-9pm. I totally didn't realize several things about the theory courses.

1) The classes are 3 hours each.
2) They're twice a week.
3) I'll be done by the end of May.

This means that I can then go write the written test at the appropriate government agency anytime after May whatever it is that our last class is on. I'm going to be calling for an appointment on Wednesday, and should probably be able to get one for mid to late June.

Should I get 75% on each of the test's three sections, I will then be granted a permit that will let me drive as long as there's someone else in the car with me who has had their license for two or more years.

Then, the waiting starts. I have to do 12 hours of practical lessons (actually driving with an instructor on city streets) over the next eight months after receiving my permit. After eight months, I can then take the road test for my actual license. If I pass my written test in mid to late June, I should, therefore, be able to do my test in mid to late January. I do not believe I will do so until March or April, because I don't know how much I'm going to freak out about driving in winter conditions in a part of town with which I'm not familiar. But we'll see.

While 12 hours is the amount of time I'm required to drive over the eight month waiting period, my teacher told us we should look to drive about 100 hours between receiving the permit and attempting to get the full license. Or, about two hours a week. With anyone who'll drive with us, he said with a grin.

There's much good news in all of this:

1) I should have my permit for the majority of the summer.
2) All of my good friends ([livejournal.com profile] drsnicket excepted) have had their licenses for over two years.
3) My dad's got a company car, and anyone he authorizes to drive it is automatically insured, at no additional cost.
4) My dad goes on business trips a lot.

Therefore, I plan to drive a fair bit in the summer, and this could even potentially mean going up north with a friend AND NO FAMILY MEMBERS. The concept of being at my parents' cottage without them is like, wow. I hate how far the cottage is from civilization, but more, I hate being stuck in a bungalow with three to five family members and a couple of dogs. Other than that, the cottage is all right in the summer. Private beach, nice, small lake with no leeches and a fairly sandy bottom, use of a canoe, a river system to explore with the canoe... The only issue is the neighbour's trees blocking the stupid satellite signal (there is no cable up north, only satellite TV, and we went like, 15 years with no actual TV signals up there), but hey, if I'm up with a friend, I don't need to distract myself from my family with television.

Well, I'm still awake, but I want to wake up in like, four hours. Must try to get an appointment to get my hair chopped off, and if I have the chance, doing a load of laundry would be a Good Thing. I think I'll take my driving book and flip through it until I fall asleep.

Bleah.

Tired, though I slept from 6:30-12:20 or so.

Things I've done:

- made an appointment for my hair with the preferred hairdresser (which is only $60!)
- made an appointment to do my written driver's test... on July 15th. :/ What the hell is the point of me sitting in class for 18 hours in May if I can't use the knowledge until July? Grr.
- bitched about a stupid player of mine in Hattrick for being an injury magnet.

Okay, gonna eat lunch and watch All My Children now before getting ready to go out to the salon.
