Work and my evening. And then two memes.
Jul. 14th, 2005 02:25 amAren't my subjects OH so creative? Yes. Yes, they are.
So... Work. Was long. So long. OMG, I wanted to kill myself, it was so long. I swear to God that the amount of time between 8:25 and 8:35 was approximately SEVEN YEARS.
But, just after that, I got called into the field director's office by one of the deputy field directors.
I was actually a little nervous. Were they going to tell me that I take too many washroom breaks? Were they going to tell me that my productivity has plummeted lately (which it has, actually)?
No. I got told I was being promoted out of training, to a regular team. :D I am now a member of Team Fire. Actually, I was promoted last week, but there was someone in HR who died (no kidding), so they've been scrambling around about that, and hadn't had a chance to tell me about my promotion until now. So, yay me. $8.75/hour instead of $8.50.
I'm almost tempted to stay on beyond the end of the summer, but I don't think I'll be able to get through school and three shifts a week. I mean, it depends on my schedule, and I could probably juggle it all, but I would have no social life whatsoever. We'll see how the bursary/loan situation turns out. But it kind of sucks to sit there for three plus months and not get to the next level (which starts at $9.25/hour). I wonder if they'd reaccept me next summer at the same level... Probably not, but maybe.
OH! And I talked to a lesbian tonight on the phone. In the demographic section, I ask "are you single/never married, married, living with un/une common-law partenaire, divorced/separated or widowed?"
She answered "conjoint de fait avec une parntenaire". Which means living with a common-law wife. Which is SO COOL. :D I nearly said "Hey, I'm gay, too!" but I would have lost objectivity points, had they been listening, I'm sure. ;)
So that was work. I then had plans to meet my friends RM and JB for fireworks, and I couldn't get through to R's cell phone, leading to the largest experiment in miscommunication I've ever been a part of. Long, LONG story short, I was at Papineau metro, and up on the Jacques-Cartier Bridge. THEY were at Jean-Drapeau metro and on the on-ramp to the bridge.
( A map! )
So the funny thing is that despite being on OPPOSITE ENDS OF THE RIVER, I nearly walked all the way to where they were, but I didn't KNOW they were on that side. I swore they were on MY side. I only discovered this fact after I FINALLY found a phone. (I've decided I need a cell phone.)
I admit, I was thinking they'd ditched me for fireworks, but they didn't. Just a big ol' communication issue, and both of them were appropriately apologetic.
Anyways, I walked for years tonight and I feel good. I didn't see RM or JB, but I did talk to them both after I got home, and I did take some NICE photos, which made me happy.
I now feel like doing memes, swiped from
