Man, I remember going through and actually sitting down in Photoshop and creating, literally creating, the entirety of what I wanted my site to look like. Then afterward, doing the html until it all worked right. Now... now I have issues trying to figure out how to get widgets in wordpress to work right... let alone through all the php code that looks like jibberish half the time.
PHP... ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. I can modify simple PHP scripts (includes, etc) to work for me, but creating them on my own is kind of ... well, just not going to happen.
What I did last night was exactly what you mention, though -- I sat down in Photoshop, made something nice and... it sort of worked. Kinda. Maybe? Blah. I am pretty proud of myself for creating a background image that only repeated horizontally, though. Woot, woot. :D Small victories!
