Gay marriages.

I was just up at my grandmother's apartment, and the TV was showing footage of Rosie O'Donnell and her girlfriend after getting married in San Francisco.
Ah, awkwardness.
Neither of my grandmothers know I'm gay. Frankly, at ages 85 and 91, I don't think they really need to know, nor do I want to cause them any emotional upset (and it would upset at least my maternal grandmother, whose apartment I was at, because she's very Catholic).
So she sees the TV and is like "Rosie O'Donnell married her girlfriend today because President Bush wants to make the homosexual marriage illegal."
"Ah," I said, cautiously.
"I think it's so unnatural, two women together. I don't know if she's the man <points at Rosie> or if she's the man <points at Kelli> or how that works. But the worst is seeing two men with mustaches kissing!!"
Sue me, I laughed, instead of trying to explain the whole beauty of a lesbian relationship is the lack of a man.
And then she surprised me a little bit by saying "well, if that's what they like... and if it makes Bush angry, that's good!"
Small steps are progress any way you look at it.
