LJ trouble brewing?

Word has it that LiveJournal has canned 20 of 28 workers or 13 of 30. There are conflicting reports.

For those of you who've been using LJ for a long time, like I have, I know the thought of waking up one morning to all your entries being GONE is kind of a terrifying one.

This:

http://community.livejournal.com/ljbackup_dev/

is a great Windows backup tool. Gets all your entries and then you can download all the comments, too.

This:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljkit

is for a Mac.

Just thought I'd let you all know.

Thanks, hon. Looks like I have some backing up to do!

You are wonderful, marvelous, etc. etc. *mwah*

Oh, damn. "LJKit is a Cocoa Framework for Mac OS X designed to simplify the development of LiveJournal clients." Which basically means if you want to build your own version of an ofline LJ client, this is what you want to get started.

There is LJarchive (http://sourceforge.net/projects/ljarchive/), but the 'browser independent version' seems a little dodgy. I'll let you know what's the what :)

I'll shut up now, I swear!

D'oh! XJournal can be used, apparently, to back up the journal... which is linked from what you posted. *smacks self hard on forehead*

I found this (http://crasch.livejournal.com/746791.html), which explains how to use XJournal to make the backup.

I lied.

Per that post I linked to, XJournal will back up the entries, but not comments. That post also mentions LJDump (http://hewgill.com/ljdump/) (a Python script that will run natively in OS X), which will back up comments. I'm running it right now.

...and you probably stopped caring a while ago, now. I'll make a post with my end results. :D
