New years, new beginnings.

I rang in this year very differently from the last. It's not that I didn't have a good new year's last year, but more that it totally set the tone for the entire year ahead of me. And it's not that I had a particularly bad year or anything. Actually, on the whole, it was a pretty good year.

But that's the thing. It was *good*, not great. It lacked in several aspects and areas. While some areas far surpassed my wildest dreams (travel, for instance), others ... just never got to the point where I was satisfied with the progress or happenings in that part of my life.

And so, 2005 was brought in at the casino, with one of my closest friends, P, her husband W, and this guy I know, J. (He invited himself along. But anyways. We shall not dwell.)

No kiss at midnight like last year, despite having the chance to celebrate the new year with that same person this year. I chose to be with a good friend and her husband and we had a great time at the casino, without booze, cigarette smoke and drugs. I only got home at 5:30am and slept from 7am until 3:30pm, and I think that late hour makes me less boring than most. ;)

I think 2005 will be a year of pleasant surprises. At least, that's what it's started out as being. Surprised that P actually didn't ditch me, surprised that we actually got into the casino before midnight, surprised that we did okay there. I look forward to the surprises that await me.

In other exciting news:

- I haven't had a Coke since Christmas Day, and have had no headaches. Am slowly transitioning to water.
- I couldn't get any wintery pics from up north on Friday because it was pouring freezing rain. Next time, I promise.
- I called Nick (my Lush) from the ladies' room at the casino at 3am on New Year's. He was asleep and the three seconds it took him to process that it was me calling and saying "LUSHIOUS!!!" before responding "dykealicious!" was amusing.
- I dropped my planned Anthro class and picked up American Poetry ([livejournal.com profile] moireach, I was so distracted by Garden State that I forgot to tell you! I'm going to be studying Whitman and Ginsberg, among others.) so my schedule will go something like: Monday: 4:15-5:30, Italian. 6-8:15, Social Theory. Tuesday: 2:45-4, American Poetry, 6-8:15, Stats II. Wednesday: 4:15-5:30, Italian. Thursday: 2:45-4, American Poetry. Assuming Poetry and Italian don't suck. I can't drop the other courses,
- I tipped the clerk at my video store $3 because she let me rent Garden State despite not having my card or any ID on me whatsoever, because she recognized me. I haven't been in the store in at least four months.
- I'm copying all my MP3s to my laptop, because the same music over and over again is driving me insane. And iTunes is lovely, still. And I still want an iPod.

I'm wide awake at 3am. All hail school starting at 4:15pm on Monday.
